China, Cuba Celebrate 65-Year Friendship in Beijing

Beijing buzzed with diplomatic energy on Monday as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who also sits on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez. The two leaders marked over 65 years of diplomatic relations since China and Cuba established ties in 1960.

The meeting set the stage for the fourth ministerial of the China-CELAC Forum, taking place in Beijing on Tuesday. Wang Yi welcomed Rodriguez to the forum, highlighting the event as a key platform for China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States to deepen cooperation.

Wang noted that despite the distance between Beijing and Havana, the partnership has thrived. He said the relationship serves as a model of solidarity for socialist countries and the Global South.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Chinese mainland to boosting bilateral friendship, defending Cuba's sovereignty, and jointly opposing sanctions. Both ministers expressed optimism that the forum will help build a China-Cuba community with a shared future, exploring new avenues in trade, technology, culture, and education.

For young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and changemakers, the meeting underscores how decades-old ties can evolve into dynamic collaborations that span continents. As the China-CELAC Forum kicks off, all eyes are on Beijing to see how these efforts will shape a more connected Global South.
