China-CELAC Cooperation: From Chancay Port to Cuba’s Solar Parks

As the Chinese mainland gears up to host the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum in Beijing, attention is turning to real-world results that span the Global South. Through strategic partnerships, Chinese mainland funding and expertise are unlocking new growth engines—from deep-water ports to renewable energy hubs.

Chancay Port: A Gateway to the Pacific
The Peru’s Chancay Port project is set to handle up to 1.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually by 2024. By cutting transit times by 30% for landlocked markets, it’s helping Peru boost exports and attract logistics investment worth over $200 million.

Cuba’s Solar Parks: Powering a Sustainable Future
Across Cuba, a series of solar parks backed by the Chinese mainland now generate 250 MW of clean energy—enough to power 150,000 homes and reduce CO2 emissions by 200,000 tons per year. Local communities gain reliable electricity, while the region strengthens its green credentials.

As ministers and business leaders convene in Beijing, the China-CELAC partnership is charting its next phase: digital infrastructure, sustainable agriculture and skills exchange. With projects grounded in mutual benefit, this alliance is shaping a more connected, resilient Global South.
