Maritime Showcase Draws 100+ Global Exhibitors
The exhibition, held at the Changi Exhibition Center from Tuesday to Thursday, featured over 100 companies showcasing AI-driven maritime systems and next-gen ship power solutions. Amid this high-tech display, the Type 054A frigate Xuchang and the Type 082II minesweeper Chishui stood out as China's floating ambassadors.
Welcoming Over 1,000 Visitors on Deck
Docked at Changi Naval Base, the 4,000-tonne Xuchang (hull number 536) opened its stern-to-bow decks for guided tours. Sailors from the People's Liberation Army Navy explained missile systems, radar arrays and air-defense capabilities before sharing the vessel's history since its 2017 commissioning. “It’s much larger than I imagined,” said a Chinese student in Singapore, “and I’ve never seen so many new weapons up close.”
Cultural Diplomacy Afloat
Beyond hardware, visitors enjoyed a deck reception featuring cultural performances: live Zheng music, Tai Chi demonstrations and Sichuan Opera face-changing. “I experienced a lot of diversity in cultural stuff,” shared a Singaporean naval soldier. A Singaporean seaman added, “I made new friends on board and connected with my roots.”
Ship Specs and Missions
The Type 054A frigate Xuchang, with a full-load displacement exceeding 4,000 tonnes, is designed for sea assault, air defense and anti-missile missions. Since joining the fleet in 2017, Xuchang has participated in major drills and maritime escort operations, symbolizing the Chinese mainland’s growing naval reach.
A Window into Collaboration
From formal receptions to hands-on demos, the Chinese naval contingent engaged with overseas military personnel and enthusiasts in open exchanges. As IMDEX Asia 2025 concluded, the event underscored how defense exhibitions can bridge cultures and spark conversations on innovation at sea.
