The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday appealed to India and Pakistan to exercise restraint, urging both sides to avoid actions that could further complicate a stand-off that escalated earlier in the day.
Early on Wednesday, India launched military strikes on targets in Pakistan, prompting a strong response from Islamabad and raising concerns across the region.
"India and Pakistan are and will always be each other's neighbors. They're both China's neighbors as well," the ministry said, expressing regret over Indiaโs military action and worry about the situation.
Reaffirming its opposition to all forms of terrorism, China called on both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, advising them to remain calm and pursue dialogue.
With global eyes on South Asia, Beijing highlighted the need for de-escalation and cooperation to preserve security and prevent further hostilities between neighboring states.
