In a high-profile meeting in Brasilia on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, expressed support for dialogue between Iran and relevant parties on its nuclear programme. Wang Yi welcomed Iran's commitment to cooperate with the IAEA and reaffirmed China's respect for its peaceful use of nuclear energy.
China values Iran's commitment to not pursuing nuclear weapons and appreciates its continued diplomatic efforts, Wang Yi said, highlighting Beijing's backing for multilateralism and the basic norms of international relations. He also noted that bilateral relations have maintained positive momentum under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, despite external disruptions.
During the talks, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, reiterated that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons and is ready to negotiate on the basis of equality and mutual respect. Ahmadian praised the strong political mutual trust between China and Iran and outlined plans to deepen cooperation in economy, trade, science, technology, and connectivity.
Both sides agreed to keep communication channels open and fully implement their comprehensive cooperation plan to deliver tangible outcomes. They also voiced a shared stance against external interference, arbitrary tariffs, and unilateral sanctions, calling for a fair and equitable international order.
The meeting underscores China and Iran's efforts to fortify their comprehensive strategic partnership, defend sovereignty and national dignity, and uphold multilateral institutions like the IAEA. As the two nations advance cooperation across multiple sectors, they aim to set a new benchmark for global diplomatic engagement and economic collaboration.
