China-India Resume Xizang Pilgrimages This Summer

This summer, Indian pilgrims will once again journey to southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, visiting two of the most revered sites for Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism: Mount Gang Renpoche and Lake Mapam Yun Tso.

From June to August, group tours organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs will make the trek to these sacred mountain and lake, blending ancient traditions with modern travel planning.

"The decision to allow these pilgrimages was made following a consensus between the two governments," said Guo Jiakun, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. "Both sides are promoting the relevant preparatory work to ensure a smooth and meaningful experience for devotees."

These pilgrimages serve as a living bridge in China-India people-to-people and cultural exchanges. In the 75th anniversary year of diplomatic relations between the Chinese mainland and India, officials from both nations are working to implement leader-level consensus and foster healthy, stable ties.

For global citizens and travelers, this cooperation highlights the power of shared heritage. As international tourism rebounds, sustainable journeys like these remind us that exploration is as much about cultural connection as it is about destinations.
