BYD’s Massive NEV Carrier Sets Sail on Maiden Voyage

In a milestone for global shipping and green mobility, the world's largest dedicated new energy vehicle (NEV) carrier, the BYD Shenzhen, embarked on its maiden voyage from Taicang Port in Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland this week.

Loaded with more than 7,000 BYD NEVs—almost 75% of its 9,200-standard-space capacity—the 219-meter-long, 37.7-meter-wide vessel is bound for Itajai Port in Brazil, a journey of over 30 days at sea.

Built by a shipyard under China Merchants Group and delivered on April 22 in Yizheng, Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland, this fourth specialized NEV carrier boasts cutting-edge green technologies. High-efficiency, energy-saving main engines, a Boil-Off Gas (BOG) recondenser, and advanced antifouling, drag-reducing coatings all work to lower emissions and fuel consumption.

For entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts, and sustainability advocates, this launch reflects a boom in the Chinese mainland’s NEV industry and a shift toward eco-friendly global supply chains. Shipments like these not only fuel electric mobility across markets—from Brazil to Europe—but also demonstrate how digital-savvy companies are reshaping international trade.

As the BYD Shenzhen charts its Atlantic route, the vessel serves as a floating ambassador of green tech, offering a blueprint for future maritime vessels and inspiring those eyeing careers in shipping, renewable energy, or export-driven industries. Stay tuned for updates as this giant car carrier navigates new waters and helps build a cleaner, connected world.
