China and Kyrgyzstan Pledge to Boost Free Trade and Multilateralism

China and Kyrgyzstan have cemented their economic and diplomatic partnership, agreeing to champion free trade, uphold international rules and safeguard their regional interests, during talks between Foreign Ministers Wang Yi and Jeenbek Kulubaev.

As close neighbors linked by mountains and rivers, Wang Yi highlighted the trust and sincerity that underpin their partnership. Guided by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, the two countries have fast-tracked bilateral ties, aiming to build a community of shared future grounded in good-neighborliness and mutual prosperity.

Wang emphasized China’s support for Kyrgyzstan’s chosen development path and its firm stance against external interference. He voiced confidence that Kyrgyzstan will continue to back China’s legitimate positions on core interests while reaffirming commitment to high-level exchanges and deepening strategic mutual trust.

Kulubaev praised Japarov’s visit to the Chinese mainland in February, saying it injected fresh momentum into bilateral relations. He thanked China for its robust support of Kyrgyzstan’s economic and social development, and welcomed further investment from Chinese enterprises under a favorable business environment.

Both ministers reviewed key Belt and Road cooperation projects, from infrastructure upgrades to the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, pledging to expand mutually beneficial initiatives and enhance people-to-people exchanges.

On trade barriers, they agreed that upholding multilateralism is the greatest common ground and committed to strengthen coordination on tariff challenges.

The meeting also covered collaboration within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, with Kyrgyzstan voicing strong support for China’s upcoming SCO chairmanship and the northern Chinese mainland summit later this year.

As global trade faces headwinds, China and Kyrgyzstan’s renewed commitment signals a shared ambition to foster open markets, protect international norms and drive regional prosperity.
