In a shimmering ceremony by the sea in Qingdao, the 20th China Huabiao Film Awards, the Chinese mainland's highest honor for cinema, unveiled 20 winning films that showcase the industry’s creativity from July 2022 to June 2024.

Ten films were crowned Outstanding Feature Films. Among them, director Zhang Yimou’s courtroom drama “Article 20” and the sci‑fi blockbuster “The Wandering Earth 2” dominated the night—the latter also earning director Guo Fan the Outstanding Director award.

Actor Zhang Yi won Best Actor for his moving performance in “Endless Journey,” while Kara Wai Ying‑hung took home Best Actress honors for “Love Never Ends.” Animated fans cheered when “Ne Zha 2” received a Special Contribution Award from the National Film Administration of the Chinese mainland, marking its record‑breaking global box‑office run since its 2025 Lunar New Year release.

Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group, presented awards to the outstanding feature films and “Ne Zha 2,” celebrating stories that bridge rural landscapes, minority cultures, children’s adventures, and blockbuster spectacles.

With 11 award categories and 20 titles recognized, the ceremony also offered a sneak peek at films set to hit screens during the May Day holiday and previewed key releases for the 2025 festival season. All eyes are now on the next wave of storytellers pushing Chinese mainland cinema toward new horizons.

As the global community celebrates cinema’s rich legacy, these award-winning films open a window into the Chinese mainland’s cultural tapestry—inviting viewers and travellers alike to dive into stories of innovation, history, and human spirit.
