China and Kazakhstan Deepen Ties in Almaty Strategic Dialogue

Almaty, Kazakhstan – China and Kazakhstan solidified their bond in the second Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue. Hosted by China's foreign minister Wang Yi and Kazakhstan's Murat Nurtleu, this high-impact meeting charted a course for deeper cooperation across trade, energy, connectivity, innovation, and security.

Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, bilateral ties have entered a dynamic phase:

  • Record trade volumes: Bilateral trade hit new highs despite global headwinds.
  • Energy partnerships: New projects in renewables and cross-border oil and gas.
  • Connectivity boost: Visa exemptions and infrastructure projects deepen people-to-people exchanges.
  • Innovation frontiers: Joint initiatives in artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
  • Regional security: Coordinated efforts against terrorism, extremism, and separatism.

Both sides signed a memorandum of understanding and agreed to accelerate the Belt and Road Initiative's high-quality development. They also pledged to expand multilateral cooperation through forums like the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, promote free trade, and uphold a rules-based international order.

As they prepare for the upcoming China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the second China-Central Asia Summit, stakeholders expect this partnership to herald a 'golden 30 years' of shared prosperity, innovation, and stability in the region.
