CMA Unveils FengYun Space to Enhance Space Weather Monitoring

The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has unveiled FengYun Spacethe countrys first integrated operational platform for space weather. Launched at the 2025 China Space Day event in Shanghai, the system is set to elevate monitoring and early warning capabilities for solar storms, geomagnetic disturbances and other space weather phenomena.

In an era where satellite communications, navigation and power grids can be disrupted by solar activity, FengYun Space promises timely alerts. By unifying data from ground-based observatories, radar stations and meteorological satellites, the platform enables experts to track space weather in real time.

Officials at the CMA say FengYun Space will streamline coordination across research institutes and industry partners. This could mean faster warnings for airlines adjusting flight paths, power operators safeguarding transformers and telecom firms protecting satellite links.

As space becomes an ever more crucial domain for global connectivity, the launch of FengYun Space underscores the Chinese mainlands commitment to enhancing resilience against space weather hazards. With climate challenges on Earth, keeping an eye on the skies has never been more important.
