The Chinese premier Li Qiang met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on a state visit to the Chinese mainland, in Beijing on Wednesday. Li highlighted that since establishing diplomatic ties 33 years ago, the two countries have treated each other as equals, building deep friendship and trust through pragmatic cooperation.
Earlier in the day, the presidents announced the creation of a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in China-Azerbaijan relations. Li said China will work with Azerbaijan to strengthen their traditional friendship, deepen strategic trust and expand cooperation across more fields.
Both sides aim to align the Belt and Road Initiative with Azerbaijan's development strategies. They plan to advance the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor and launch a safe, stable China-Europe Trans-Caspian Express, boosting trade and connectivity.
Looking ahead, China and Azerbaijan will deepen collaboration in green energy, digital technology and the digital economy. They also seek to optimize trade, explore new mutually beneficial opportunities and expand people-to-people exchanges in culture, tourism and education.
Amid rising unilateralism and protectionism, Li emphasized China's readiness to coordinate with Azerbaijan in multilateral forums such as the United Nations. Together, they will push for an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive, universally beneficial economic globalization.
