China and Indonesia Vow Stronger Ties in Inaugural Foreign-Defense Dialogue

At the first-ever China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue in Beijing on Monday, key officials pledged to deepen strategic mutual trust and elevate bilateral ties to new heights.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi (also a Political Bureau member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee) and Defense Minister Dong Jun co-chaired the meeting with Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. This inaugural dialogue aims to strengthen high-level exchanges and practical cooperation in defense, security and beyond.

"This mechanism fully demonstrates the high strategic mutual trust between our countries," Wang said. He urged both sides to uphold strategic independence, support each other's core interests and enhance law enforcement collaboration through joint training and information sharing.

Both Beijing and Jakarta highlighted the importance of advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation by leveraging complementary resources and boosting resilient cross-border industrial and supply chains. They also agreed to coordinate on global platforms such as the United Nations, BRICS and the G20 to champion peace, fairness and sustainable development.

Defense Minister Dong Jun stressed that deeper security ties will underpin the growth of a China-Indonesia community with a shared future, contributing to regional peace and global stability. He called for building a new defense cooperation framework featuring coordinated mechanisms and multi-field collaboration.

For young entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts and digital nomads, this strengthened partnership signals smoother trade routes and richer innovation ecosystems. Travelers and cultural explorers can look forward to enhanced connectivity and security, while thought leaders see a fresh model for strategic collaboration in Asia and beyond.
