Song ‘Brilliant with Charm!’ Marks 15th UN Chinese Language Day

Every year on April 20, the United Nations celebrates UN Chinese Language Day. This date ties to Grain Rain, a key point among China's 24 solar terms that ushers in nourishing spring rains. Legend says this was the moment Cangjie, the mythical scholar, first crafted Chinese characters.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the observance. To celebrate, Latvian Sinologist Professor Peteris Pildegovičs and his students launched a series of cultural events aimed at showcasing the depth and vitality of Chinese language and heritage across borders.

The centerpiece is a new song titled "The Chinese Language – Brilliant with Charm!". Its lively melody and lyrics pay tribute to Grain Rain's life-giving rains, honor Cangjie's legacy, and highlight how language connects communities and fosters mutual understanding.

In the debut video, 87‑year‑old Professor Pildegovičs makes a heartfelt appearance, underscoring his lifelong passion for cultural exchange. His participation brings a personal touch to this cross-cultural celebration.

With its message of linguistic diversity and equality, the song invites young global citizens, business innovators, and cultural enthusiasts to appreciate the power of language as a bridge between worlds.
