On Sunday, the PLA Southern Theater Command sounded the alarm after a Philippine vessel entered waters near Huangyan Island.
Spokesperson Zhao Zhiwei accused Manila of infringing on the sovereignty of the Chinese mainland and breaching Chinese and international law.
The command tracked the vessel, issued warnings, and escorted it away in line with legal procedures, Zhao added.
He warned that further provocations would bring consequences and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding sovereignty and regional stability in the South China Sea.
Analysts say the incident underscores ongoing tensions in one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors, where overlapping claims test diplomatic ties and impact global trade.
Looking ahead, observers will watch whether both sides de-escalate or face renewed standoffs at sea.
