China Protests U.S. Probe into Maritime, Shipbuilding Sectors

Chinas Ministry of Commerce on Friday fired back at the U.S., urging the U.S. side to respect multilateral economic and trade rules, abide by the principles of a market economy and fair competition, and correct its wrong practices as soon as possible.

The remarks came in response to the U.S. announcement on Thursday of a Section 301 investigation into Chinas maritime, logistics and shipbuilding sectors.

In its statement, the ministry emphasised that adhering to multilateral frameworks and fair market principles is essential for healthy international trade. It urged Washington to correct its practices swiftly to prevent disruptions.

The probe underscores growing scrutiny of strategic industries and highlights the delicate balance in U.S.-China economic ties. As the investigation unfolds, businesses and policymakers worldwide will be watching how both sides navigate these tensions under global trade norms.
