The Mohan port in southwest China's Yunnan Province, located at the border with Laos, is witnessing a significant boost in cross-border travel. With over 415,000 entries and exits from ASEAN member countries recorded so far this year, the port shows a remarkable year-on-year increase of more than 24% in passenger trips.
This surge represents over 45% of the port's total cross-border traffic, with travelers primarily visiting for tourism, to see friends and family, and for business and conferences. Notably, Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia are emerging as the top sources of passenger traffic at this key transit point.
Overall, the port has handled more than 920,000 inbound and outbound passengers this year, marking an 11.8% increase compared to last year. These figures underscore the strategic importance of the Mohan port as a gateway that not only bolsters regional connectivity but also encourages economic interactions and cultural exchanges between the Chinese mainland and ASEAN member countries.
This steady rise in travel numbers highlights the increasing mobility and opportunities available to young global citizens, entrepreneurs, and travel enthusiasts, fueling a vibrant network of regional cooperation and growth.
