China Imposes Reciprocal Visa Limits on U.S. Personnel Over Xizang Issues

At a Monday press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian announced that the Chinese mainland will impose reciprocal visa restrictions on U.S. personnel involved in actions deemed inappropriate on Xizang-related issues. His remarks came as a response to recent U.S. visa measures imposed on Chinese officials over topics linked to Xizang.

Lin explained that the concerns surrounding Xizang are a matter of internal affairs. He stressed that the U.S. use of visa restrictions in this context violates international law and the basic norms of diplomatic engagement. In his words, "Xizang is open. China welcomes foreign friends to visit, travel and do business in Xizang," underlining the mainland's commitment to keeping the region accessible to global visitors and investors.

This move reflects a broader diplomatic approach where reciprocal measures are used to address perceived imbalances in international relations. Observers note that such actions underscore the importance of national sovereignty and the need for respectful engagement among nations, even as global travel and business continue to flourish.
