Generative AI Boom: 346 Services Registered by CAC

A sweeping wave in the tech world is underway as the Cyberspace Administration of the Chinese mainland (CAC) confirmed that 346 generative AI services were registered as of March 31. This milestone not only underscores the rapid pace of AI innovation but also marks a significant regulatory step to ensure that emerging technologies contribute positively to public discourse.

This wave has been notably propelled by the rise of Deepseek this year, which has sparked global attention and driven an influx of investments into the AI arena. Alongside Deepseek, prominent offerings such as Baidu's Ernie Bot have completed their filing, emphasizing the growing influence of generative AI on both industry standards and market dynamics.

According to the CAC, AI service providers possessing attributes like public opinion influence or the capacity for social mobilization are required to complete filing or registration procedures through local cyberspace authorities. Moreover, once generative AI applications or features are launched, regulators mandate that the AI model names and their filing or registration numbers be clearly displayed in a prominent location on product pages.

These efforts are part of broader initiatives introduced in the Interim Measures for the Management of Generative AI Services released in July 2023, which came into effect on August 15. By setting these standards, the CAC and its partners aim to foster a safe and innovative environment that balances rapid technological growth with societal responsibilities.

As the global tech community continues to evolve, these developments demonstrate a dynamic interplay between regulation and innovation, echoing the sentiments of young global citizens, tech enthusiasts, and thought leaders alike. The advancements, driven by data and creative breakthroughs, promise to shape the future of AI on a worldwide scale.
