In a recent display of military resolve, a spokesperson from China's Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the PLAโs multi-subject drills around the island of Taiwan are legitimate, necessary, and reasonable. These exercises are designed to reinforce national security and showcase the armed forces' commitment to protecting territorial integrity.
On Tuesday, the PLA Eastern Theater Command carried out coordinated drills in the waters to the north, south, and east of the island. The following day, the Shandong aircraft carrier task group was deployed to simulate strikes on both ground and maritime targets east of the island, highlighting advanced combat preparedness.
Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang criticized the Taiwan authorities led by Lai Ching-te for engaging in provocative actions that seek "Taiwan independence." He warned that such provocations inevitably escalate tensions, remarking, "the more provocations they make, the faster they will meet their demise."
Zhang emphasized that maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait requires adherence to the one-China principle. He asserted that all parties and international actors committed to regional stability must stop offering signals that embolden separatist activities.
These developments underline a clear message: assertive and comprehensive defense measures serve as a crucial deterrent against any moves that could destabilize the region.
