AI Translation LLM Boosts Myanmar Rescue Efforts

In an inspiring fusion of technology and humanitarian aid, a cutting-edge AI-powered translation system named DeepSeek is now supporting rescue teams in Myanmar. This innovative tool provides accurate Chinese-Burmese-English translations essential for emergency situations.

Co-developed by the National Language Service Corps of China and Beijing Language and Culture University, DeepSeek was built in just seven hours. Unlike traditional translation machines that often struggle with specialized terminology, this large language model integrates existing knowledge bases to enhance translation quality. Han Lintao from Beijing Language and Culture University explained, "With the LLM, when integrating terminology with existing knowledge bases, the translation quality can be significantly improved than that of traditional translation machines, fully meeting rescue teams' translation needs."

A dedicated website, developed with DeepSeek's assistance, displays critical emergency terms in Chinese, Burmese, and English pronunciations. These translations have been verified by international students from Myanmar at Beijing Language and Culture University, ensuring reliability during rescue missions. Since its launch on March 29, the site has engaged over 700 unique users in Myanmar, and recent updates have included a voice translator and map integration for place names.

This first deployment of a Chinese LLM in international earthquake rescue efforts showcases how rapid AI innovation can offer real-world impact, bridging language barriers in critical moments and fostering global collaboration in crisis response.
