Wang Yi & Lavrov Pledge to Strengthen Global Ties

During a high-level meeting in Moscow, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and promoting global stability. On a three-day official visit, Wang Yi underscored the shared legacy of sacrifice, marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, and the United Nations.

Wang Yi emphasized that past struggles highlight the importance of upholding international fairness and justice. He stated that China is ready to embrace its responsibilities as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, working with Russia to steer global affairs toward a multipolar and democratic international order.

Lavrov praised the historic friendship and strategic coordination between the two nations, noting that deep-rooted common interests and a long tradition of good-neighborliness underpin their partnership. He also affirmed Russia’s support for China’s position on the Taiwan question and its global initiatives.

Addressing contemporary challenges, the ministers exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Lavrov highlighted Russia’s focus on eliminating the root causes of the crisis, while Wang Yi reiterated China’s commitment to forging international consensus for peace through constructive platforms such as the "Friends of Peace."

Both leaders agreed to bolster coordination between their foreign ministries and enhance cultural ties through initiatives like the China-Russia Cultural Year. They also stressed the importance of multilateral cooperation within frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, G20, and the United Nations to safeguard the interests of countries in the Global South.
