Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hits Record 7.5M Passengers in Q1 2025

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, a modern engineering marvel and the world's longest bridge-and-tunnel sea crossing, has shattered records in the first quarter of 2025. Over 7.5 million inbound and outbound passenger trips were recorded at the Zhuhai port, marking a 23% year-on-year increase that underscores the bridge's growing role in regional connectivity.

The data also shows a robust surge in vehicle traffic, with more than 1.56 million vehicle trips—a 31% increase compared to the same period last year. Notably, visitors from Hong Kong and Macao are propelling this growth, as 880,000 trips by vehicles with Hong Kong or Macao plates surged by 34% and 4.1 million passenger trips from these regions accounted for over 54% of the total flow.

International activity is also on the rise, with more than 120,000 trips by foreign visitors set at a record-high increase of 22% year-on-year. Among these, visa-free inbound trips jumped by 122% with over 20,000 recorded in Q1. Since November 2023, adjustments to the visa-free transit policy have been instrumental in boosting openness and reinforcing people-to-people exchanges on the Chinese mainland.

These record-breaking numbers signal a dynamic period of growth and expanded cross-border mobility, resonating with travelers, tech enthusiasts, and global changemakers alike. As regional travel continues to evolve, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge stands as a key symbol of the era’s accelerated connectivity and innovative policy shifts.
