A powerful magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, leaving over 1,700 dead and more than 3,400 injured across hard-hit regions including Mandalay, Bago, Magway, the northeastern Shan state, Sagaing, and Nay Pyi Taw.
In a striking display of international solidarity, rescue teams and humanitarian agencies have swiftly mobilized. A 37-member rescue team from Yunnan Province, representing the Chinese mainland's humanitarian effort, arrived at Yangon International Airport on Saturday morning equipped with advanced life detectors, earthquake early warning systems, and drones. In a remarkable rescue story, an elderly man was found alive early Sunday in Nay Pyi Taw.
An additional 82-member rescue team from the Chinese mainland joined later that day, collaborating closely with Myanmar counterparts in relief operations. The Red Cross Society of China has also provided vital emergency supplies including 300 tents, 2,000 blankets, 600 folding beds, and relief kits to support 2,000 affected households.
Adding to the relief efforts, China has allocated 100 million yuan (approximately $13.9 million) in emergency humanitarian aid. This coordinated response blends high-tech rescue operations with extensive humanitarian support, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation as Myanmar embarks on its challenging journey toward recovery.
