Modern Postpartum Care: A New Era in the Chinese Mainland

The Chinese mainland is witnessing a transformation in postpartum care. Traditional practices like zuoyuezi, or "sitting the month," have evolved into a comprehensive, science-driven experience that nurtures both body and mind.

Cao Minrui's journey exemplifies this change. Soon after the birth of her second child, she checked into a private care center nestled in a peaceful park. In this tranquil environment, her newborn received attentive care from professional maternity nurses and nannies, while Cao benefited from six carefully crafted meals, psychological counseling, guided recovery exercises, and beauty treatments.

This modern approach not only supports physical recovery but also equips new mothers with essential parenting skills. Reflecting on her first experience, Cao recalled feeling overwhelmed and uncertain when faced with challenges like baby spitting and breastfeeding issues. Her subsequent stay at the same center provided her with hands-on training in baby bathing, massage, and quicker healing methods.

A 2022 survey by iiMedia Research revealed that 93.5 percent of respondents consider postpartum confinement necessary, with 65.8 percent favoring professional care centers. Reflecting a broader transformation, many new mothers are now also choosing to hire a yuesao for personalized support, moving away from traditional family-managed methods.

As consumption habits evolve alongside a growing economy, the Chinese mainland's mother-child care industry is setting new benchmarks in holistic recovery. Modern postpartum centers are redefining care by blending traditional values with scientific practices, ensuring that both mothers and their newborns receive the dedicated support they deserve.
