In a significant step for regional stability, China and India convened the 33rd Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs in Beijing. Co-chaired by Hong Liang, director general of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and Gourangalal Das, joint secretary of the East Asia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, the meeting brought renewed focus to cross-border peace and cooperation.
The dialogue was characterized as positive, constructive, and forward-looking, with both sides exchanging comprehensive views on border management, control measures, and institutional cooperation. Building on a six-point consensus reached during a landmark meeting in December 2024—where China’s special representative Wang Yi and India’s special representative, National Security Adviser Shri Ajit Doval, set the framework for future cooperation—the discussions underscored a mutual commitment to implementing practical measures that safeguard peace.
Looking ahead, both parties agreed to prepare for the 24th meeting between their special representatives on the boundary question. This continued engagement highlights a shared dedication to addressing complex border issues and ensuring long-term tranquility in the region.
