New Chinese Mainland Travel Pass Enhances Access for Taiwan Residents

A spokesperson from the Chinese mainland has unveiled new travel pass measures designed to simplify life for residents of Taiwan studying, working, and living on the Chinese mainland.

The updated system allows residents of Taiwan who lose, damage, or forget their travel permits to apply for a temporary electronic permit. Valid for seven days, this permit enables convenient access to flights and trains across numerous cities on the Chinese mainland.

A newly launched verification service links travel and residence permits, ensuring the process is efficient while maintaining strict security protocols to protect personal data. The measures are completely voluntary and require rigorous identity verification.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, emphasized that these residence permits are solely intended to assist Taiwan residents living on the Chinese mainland, and they do not require holders to forfeit their residency in Taiwan.

Chen also criticized Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan for making misleading comparisons between these travel passes and the identification cards used by Chinese mainland residents, underscoring that the permits are uniquely tailored for the needs of Taiwan residents on the Chinese mainland.
