In a thrilling display at the ISU World Short Track Championships in Beijing, Liu Shaoang, representing the Chinese mainland, clinched bronze in the men’s 1,500 meters event. Despite crossing the finish line fourth, a disqualification in the final lap bumped him up to a well-deserved podium finish with a time of 2:15.89.
Canada’s William Dandjinou seized gold with a time of 2:15.09, while Belgium’s Stijn Desmet narrowly secured silver, finishing just 0.02 seconds behind. Liu, the only home skater to qualify for the final, celebrated his achievement, stating, "This is our first final here, and I was happy that we won bronze, but we will keep going, because what we really want is gold."
The action didn’t stop there. In the men’s 500 meters, Canada’s Steven Dubois captured the title in 40.008 seconds, with Denis Nikisha from Kazakhstan and another competitor rounding out the podium. The championships also witnessed impressive performances in the women’s events, including a standout Canadian quartet clinching the 3,000 meter relay and Belgium’s Hanne Desmet topping the women’s 1,000 meters.
As the three-day event nears its conclusion on Sunday, athletes and fans worldwide are gearing up for the final five titles, eager to see more inspiring moments that highlight global sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
