Chinese tennis prospect Shang Juncheng announced on Wednesday that he has successfully undergone foot surgery after an injury sustained at the Australian Open. The 20-year-old shared on social media his determination to bounce back and return to the court as soon as possible.
During his first round match against Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the Australian Open, Shang experienced foot discomfort which led to his early exit. After extensive consultations with medical experts, his team decided a minor procedure was the best route forward.
"After the Australian Open, my foot started causing issues. Over the past few weeks, my team and I consulted extensively with medical experts, and decided to proceed with a minor procedure. The good news is the surgery went smoothly. I can't wait to get back on the court," Shang stated in his message.
Currently ranked No.55 in the world, Shang's commitment to recovery and his ambitious outlook resonate with young sports enthusiasts and global audiences eager to witness his return to competitive play.
