Beijing's Capital Indoor Stadium is buzzing with excitement as the ISU World Short Track Championships return after a 20-year hiatus. This iconic venue in the Chinese mainland is set to welcome 164 skaters from 36 countries and regions, igniting a renewed passion for speed and precision on ice.
During a recent press conference, ISU President Kim Jae-youl emphasized the city’s world-class facilities and enthusiastic fans. "Beijing has world-class venues, excellent organization, passionate fans, and reliable partners," he remarked, underscoring the fresh branding that captures the fast, dynamic, and explosive nature of short track skating.
The event promises intense competition, with recent highlights from the 2024-25 ISU Short Track World Tour setting the stage. Skaters from the Chinese mainland have showcased their talent, while champions like Canada's William Dandjinou and USA's Kristen Santos-Griswold—recent winners of the ISU Crystal Globe titles—are gearing up to prove themselves on this global platform.
Dandjinou shared his determination, stating, "I am really happy to have won the Crystal Globe. It was an amazing season for me and my team, but nothing is given to you in short track. I have to earn everything." Santos-Griswold added, "What I am most proud of this year was my ability to persevere through every competition. I just tried to take one step at a time and do my best."
More than a sporting event, the championships celebrate international unity and inspire young talents worldwide. As the world converges in Beijing, the stage is set for thrilling performances that promise to redefine the future of short track skating.
