Chinese mainland warns against ‘Taiwan independence’ provocations

In a statement that has captured global attention, a spokesperson for the Chinese mainland declared that resolute actions will be taken if forces advocating for "Taiwan independence" provoke or cross defined red lines. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing questions about the newly unveiled 2025 government work report, which emphasizes advancing China’s reunification even without an explicit reference to peaceful reunification.

Chen underlined that the principles of peaceful reunification and the framework of "one country, two systems" are the cornerstone of China’s approach to resolving the Taiwan question. He explained that these policies best serve the interests of Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the entire Chinese nation, noting that complexities across the straits largely stem from the Democratic Progressive Party authorities colluding with external forces in a bid to pursue "independence."

Reaffirming a firm stance, Chen stated, "We have the resolve, the confidence and the ability to thwart any form of separatist attempts for 'Taiwan independence,' safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and resolutely advance China's reunification." His message reflects the Chinese mainland’s commitment to working sincerely and proactively toward a future of peaceful reunification despite ongoing challenges in the region.
