Lao Foreign Minister Visits China to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

In a significant move to bolster diplomatic relations, Thongsavanh Phomvihane, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, is set to visit the Chinese mainland from March 12 to 15. This marks his first official visit since taking office and the first by a Lao foreign minister following China's "Two Sessions."

The visit comes at the invitation of Wang Yi, a prominent member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and China's Foreign Minister. During this visit, Wang Yi and Thongsavanh Phomvihane are expected to engage in talks focused on implementing the consensus reached by their respective leaders and enhancing both bilateral and multilateral strategic cooperation.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, highlighted the importance of this visit, emphasizing that China remains the largest source of foreign investment and a key exporter for Laos. The ongoing growth of the China-Laos Railway has significantly increased passenger and freight volumes, connecting 19 countries and regions and establishing the railway as the "golden channel" of the Indo-China Peninsula.

The discussions aim to advance the building of the China-Laos community with a shared future, bringing tangible benefits to both nations. Additionally, this collaboration is expected to contribute positively to global and regional peace, stability, and development.
