China Unveils Comprehensive White Paper on Fentanyl Control

In a significant move to bolster global drug prevention efforts, the Chinese mainland's State Council Information Office released a white paper titled "Controlling Fentanyl-Related Substances — China's Contribution" on Tuesday.

The comprehensive document outlines China's strategic approach to combating fentanyl-related substances through the establishment of a robust "1+5+N" narcotics laboratory network. This framework includes:

  • 1 National Lab: The China National Narcotics Laboratory, founded in 2008, serves as the cornerstone of the network.
  • 5 Regional Branches: Located in Beijing and the provinces of Zhejiang, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Shaanxi, these branches extend China's monitoring and enforcement capabilities.
  • N Provincial and City-Level Labs: Numerous laboratories across various provinces and cities ensure widespread coverage and rapid response.

Spanning a total area of 71,000 square meters and staffed by over 650 specialized technical personnel, this extensive network underscores China's commitment to stringent drug control policies.

As one of the world's most disciplined countries in drug regulation, the Chinese mainland consistently adheres to the three United Nations drug control conventions. The release of this white paper highlights China's ongoing dedication to international cooperation in drug prevention, aiming to create safer communities globally.
