CPPCC Praises Record Spring Festival Consumption Boom

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has lauded the impressive surge in consumption during this year's Spring Festival. Liu Jieyi, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, highlighted several key achievements that underscore China's vibrant economic and cultural landscape.

Liu made these remarks while briefing the press ahead of the CPPCC's annual session, set to commence on Tuesday. He emphasized that 2025 marks the first Spring Festival since its inclusion in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, celebrating China's rich traditions on a global stage.

One of the standout highlights this Spring Festival was the record-high box office revenue and an unprecedented number of moviegoers, reflecting the seamless blend of traditional culture with high-tech innovations. This fusion has not only entertained millions but also boosted the entertainment industry's growth.

The upgraded visa-free policy played a significant role in attracting a surge of inbound tourists, with arrivals skyrocketing by 150 percent compared to the previous year. This influx has energized local economies and showcased the enduring appeal of China's cultural festivities.

With the successful inscription of the Spring Festival, China now proudly holds 44 cultural elements or practices on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage listโ€”the highest number globally. This achievement highlights the profound charm and resilience of China's traditional culture.

Reflecting on the past year, Liu recalled the CPPCC members' visits to regions like Shandong, Shanxi, and Henan. These visits involved thematic investigations, discussions with front-line cultural and museum workers, and in-depth learning about significant projects aimed at tracing the origins of Chinese civilization. These efforts have been instrumental in shaping informed suggestions and strategies for cultural preservation.

To foster a deeper societal understanding of China's history, the CPPCC published \"100 Facts on History and Culture of Community for the Chinese Nation.\" This book delves into the extensive exchanges and integration among various ethnic groups in China, offering insights through 100 thoughtfully selected topics.

Looking ahead, the CPPCC remains committed to promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture, strengthening the nation's spiritual foundation, and building a robust cultural base to support China's ongoing development and rejuvenation.
