In a strong response on Wednesday, China urged the United States to halt its military support to the Taiwan region, emphasizing the need to preserve peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
During a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed reports alleging that the Trump administration had released $5.3 billion in previously frozen foreign aid. This package reportedly includes $870 million earmarked for security programs in Taiwan.
Lin expressed serious concern over these developments, stating that China has consistently opposed U.S. military assistance to the Taiwan region. He highlighted that such actions undermine the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, posing significant threats to China’s sovereignty and security interests. Moreover, Lin warned that this move sends a misguided signal to separatist forces advocating for \"Taiwan independence\".
\"China will closely follow the development of the situation and firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity,\" Lin added.
