China and New Zealand Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Ties

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters in Beijing on Wednesday. The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to mutual respect and equal partnership.

Wang Yi emphasized the importance of multilateral coordination amid the current dynamic international landscape. He highlighted China's ongoing high-level opening-up and its expansive market as key factors that will continue to foster greater opportunities for cooperation with New Zealand.

Addressing educational ties, Wang expressed hope that New Zealand will maintain a welcoming environment for Chinese students and overseas Chinese residents. He also acknowledged the shared home that the Asia-Pacific region represents for both countries, reaffirming China's respect for New Zealand's traditional relations with Pacific island nations.

Winston Peters lauded the progress made since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between New Zealand and China. He affirmed New Zealand's adherence to the one-China policy and expressed eagerness to deepen exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, including economics, trade, agriculture, defense, and Antarctic affairs.

The two leaders agreed to sustain high-level dialogues and collaborate on China's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA), signaling a sustained commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
