China has strongly opposed Canada’s recent sanctions targeting over 20 Chinese entities involved in providing dual-use items to Russia. During a regular news briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian described Canada’s actions as unreasonable and wrong.
Lin Jian emphasized that unilateral sanctions, which lack a basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council, are unacceptable. \\"China firmly opposes it and has made solemn representations to the Canadian side,\\" she stated.
The spokesperson highlighted China's commitment to an objective and impartial stance on the Ukraine issue, stressing the promotion of a political settlement of the crisis. China has not provided lethal weapons to conflicting parties and maintains strict controls over the export of dual-use items, including drones.
Lin Jian also noted that China conducts normal economic and trade cooperation with Russia based on equality and mutual benefit, describing these actions as reasonable and beyond reproach. She urged Canada to immediately revoke its decision, adding that China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
