China’s FM Wang Yi Strengthens Ties with Angola as AU Presidency Begins

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio in Johannesburg on Friday. During the meeting, Wang extended his heartfelt congratulations to Angola on assuming the presidency of the African Union (AU).

Wang reiterated the Chinese mainland's consistent stance in Africa, emphasizing that China does not pursue private interests on the continent and respects the internal affairs of African nations. He highlighted China's unwavering support for African integration and its commitment to maintaining strong relations with all African countries.

The Foreign Minister underscored that China's comprehensive cooperation with Africa not only accelerates the continent's development but also encourages the international community to increase attention and investment in the region. He pledged that China will continue to be Africa's most sincere and reliable partner in its future endeavors.

Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio expressed gratitude for China's support in Angola's economic and social development. He acknowledged the significant contributions of Chinese companies to Angola's national construction and reiterated Angola's willingness to expand cooperation with China in areas such as trade, investment, finance, and energy.

Antonio assured China of Angola's firm support on issues related to China's core interests and expressed Angola's intention to leverage its role as AU chair to enhance communication and coordination with China. He emphasized the goal of deepening China-Africa cooperation and strengthening African unity.
