China and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Ties at G20 Summit

At the recent G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Johannesburg, the Foreign Ministers of China and Saudi Arabia, Wang Yi and Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, met to fortify bilateral relations and explore avenues for expanded cooperation.

Wang Yi highlighted that over the past 35 years since diplomatic ties were established, China-Saudi Arabia relations have grown to become a cornerstone of China’s relations with Middle Eastern countries. Emphasizing mutual trust and friendship, Wang expressed China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, new energy, digital economy, information and telecommunications, and high-end manufacturing.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also lauded Saudi Arabia’s active role in mediating regional hotspots, particularly noting the kingdom’s efforts towards peace and stability in the Middle East. On the Palestinian issue, Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s support for efforts to achieve lasting peace and rectify historical injustices.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud echoed the sentiment, describing China and Saudi Arabia as comprehensive strategic partners. He underscored Saudi Arabia’s dedication to deepening high-level exchanges and achieving further successes in bilateral relations on the occasion of their 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Both ministers agreed to bolster communication and cooperation with Arab and Gulf countries, aiming for more concrete outcomes in China-Arab and China-Gulf practical collaborations.
