In a recent press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun criticized the U.S. State Department for making changes to its \"U.S.-China Relations\" webpage and fact sheet. Guo accused the alterations of misrepresenting facts, attacking China's foreign policy, and pushing the narrative of a strategic competition between the U.S. and China.
\"We strongly deplore and firmly oppose it,\" Guo stated, highlighting that the U.S. changes focus more on economic ties, particularly emphasizing the U.S.-China trade deficit, alleged unfair competition practices by China, and concerns of U.S. firms operating in China.
He affirmed that China's U.S. policy remains consistent and clear, grounded in the three principles put forth by President Xi Jinping: mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. \"We are equally determined to defend our sovereignty, security and development interests,\" Guo added.
Guo urged the U.S. to honor the common understandings reached by the two presidents during their phone call, cease misleading the American public and the international community, and stop smearing and pressuring China.
The spokesperson emphasized that the U.S. should approach China-U.S. relations objectively and rationally, jointly promoting a steady, sound, and sustainable development of the bilateral relationship.
