At a high-level United Nations Security Council meeting, participants reached a consensus on revitalizing multilateralism, emphasizing the indispensable role of the UN. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted that in the current global landscape, the UN's position should be fortified, not diminished.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, led the discussion titled \"Practicing multilateralism, reforming and improving global governance.\" He noted that all parties agreed the trend toward multilateralism is irreversible and advocated for supporting the UN-centered system.
The coalition recognized the unstoppable trend toward unity and progress, stressing the importance of interdependence and a shared future. Wang emphasized that stronger nations should refrain from bullying weaker ones and avoid a \"law of the jungle\" approach.
Additionally, participants concurred on the necessity to reform and enhance global governance. Wang stressed increasing the representation of the Global South and ensuring that the reform process reflects the interests of the majority.
As the UN marks its 80th anniversary, Wang called for the Security Council to adapt to current challenges and better meet global expectations. He outlined four key suggestions: prioritize the common good, foster sincere cooperation, honor commitments, and continue reforming the Security Council to make it more representative and effective.
