Ne Zha 2 Smashes Box Office with $1.65B Global Haul

China's animated phenomenon Ne Zha 2 has stormed global charts, raking in 12 billion yuan ($1.65 billion) worldwide as of February 17, cementing its status as a cultural and commercial powerhouse. The sequel now ranks #11 among all-time highest-grossing films globally and claims second place in animated film history, trailing only Disney-Pixar's Inside Out 2.

Fueled by massive domestic support and growing international appeal, the film builds on the success of its 2019 predecessor while pushing boundaries in CGI innovation. Industry analysts highlight its hybrid storytelling—modernizing ancient Chinese mythology through cutting-edge animation—as key to bridging cultural divides and attracting Gen-Z audiences across G20 nations.

'This isn't just a win for Chinese cinema—it's proof that locally rooted stories can achieve global resonance through technological ambition,' said Li Wei, a Shanghai-based entertainment analyst. Pre-sales accounted for 18% of total revenue, while overseas markets contributed 23%, with strong showings in Southeast Asia and Europe.
