ISU President Praises Harbin’s Asian Winter Games Hosting

International Skating Union (ISU) President Kim Jae-youl visited CGTN Sports Scene’s studio in Harbin during the 9th Asian Winter Games, commending China’s efforts to leverage the infrastructure and expertise from the 2022 Winter Olympics. The event, hosted in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, has drawn global attention to the region’s winter sports potential.

Kim highlighted Harbin’s “exceptional organizational capabilities” and the seamless integration of legacy Olympic facilities, underscoring China’s growing influence in winter sports. He exchanged New Year greetings with CGTN’s Greg Laffradi, acknowledging the media network’s long-standing partnership with the ISU in promoting ice sports worldwide.

ISU Director General Colin Smith, visiting Harbin for the first time, expressed admiration for the city’s role as a breeding ground for elite athletes. “The energy here reflects Asia’s rising prominence in winter sports,” he said, noting opportunities for cross-regional collaborations.
