China Calls for Global AI Collaboration, Stresses Inclusive Innovation

China has pledged to deepen international collaboration on artificial intelligence (AI) while advocating for ethical governance and opposing the politicization of emerging technologies, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun announced this week. The statement comes amid growing global interest in China’s rapidly developing AI sector, highlighted by breakthroughs from firms like DeepSeek.

\"We take AI safety seriously and support entrepreneurial innovation to contribute China’s solutions to global AI development,\" Guo said during a press briefing. He emphasized China’s opposition to creating tech divisions based on ideology or \"overstretching national security concerns,\" urging nations to avoid zero-sum competition.

The spokesperson outlined China’s vision for \"governing AI for good and for all,\" calling for cross-border cooperation to build open frameworks that balance innovation with security. Recent reports show Chinese AI startups attracted $14 billion in funding last year, signaling the sector’s growing influence.

Analysts suggest this push aligns with broader efforts to position China as a rule-maker in critical tech fields while addressing Western concerns about AI ethics. The approach could create new opportunities for multinational research partnerships and standardization efforts.
