China’s Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC) has made significant strides in enhancing its emergency response capabilities with the latest test flights of the AG600M “Kunlong” amphibious aircraft.
Recently, three AG600M aircraft completed another round of rigorous assessments at the AVIC civil aircraft test flight center in Pucheng, Shaanxi Province. Supported by a dedicated team of around 500 researchers, the tests simulated critical scenarios such as flight control failures and ice formation conditions, ensuring the aircraft's reliability and safety. Additionally, comprehensive evaluations were conducted following avionics system upgrades, paving the way for the aircraft’s airworthiness certification.
The AG600M, an upgraded variant of the AG600 family, boasts impressive specifications including a maximum takeoff weight of 60 tonnes, a 12-tonne water-carrying capacity, and a flight range of 4,500 kilometers. These features make it exceptionally suited for complex missions like dousing wildfires and executing open-sea rescues, especially in regions with short runways or challenging terrains.
Since its prototype phase, the AG600M has successfully achieved significant milestones, including its first land test landing in May 2022 and its inaugural water landing in August 2022. As China continues to focus on building robust frameworks for disaster management and maritime safety, the AG600M stands out as a pivotal asset in these endeavors.
With continued advancements and successful test outcomes, the AG600M is set to play a critical role in China’s national emergency response strategies, reflecting the country's commitment to leveraging homegrown aerospace innovations for public safety and disaster relief.
