Harbin, the capital of the northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, is leading the charge in the country's booming ice and snow economy.
During the eight-day 2025 Spring Festival holiday from January 28 to February 4, Harbin experienced a surge in snow tourism. The city’s renowned ice-themed park, Harbin Ice-Snow World, attracted over 610,000 visitors, with more than 100,000 visiting on February 1 alone—setting a new single-day attendance record.
The park's growing popularity is partly due to Harbin's upcoming role as the host of the 9th Asian Winter Games, scheduled from February 7 to 14. This event marks China's second major winter sports competition following the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games and will host a welcome banquet for the foreign leaders in attendance.
