China continues its impressive run in the mixed doubles curling event at the ninth Asian Winter Games, securing a third consecutive victory over the Philippines with a score of 9-6 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, on Wednesday.
Representing China, Han Yu and Wang Zhiyu showcased their exceptional skills by defeating Kyrgyzstan's pair, Amina Seitzhanova and Iskhak Abykeev, with a final score of 8-3. The match saw each team score one point in the first two ends, followed by China scoring two points in the next two ends. Despite Kyrgyzstan managing to claw back two points in the fifth end, the Chinese duo maintained their lead and clinched the win.
In their second game, Han and Wang quickly established an 8-0 lead against the Philippines' Marc Pfister and Kathleen Dubberstein, confidently advancing into the second half. Even as Pfister and Dubberstein won the fifth and seventh ends to reduce the gap to three points, the Chinese team remained composed, executing a perfect double takeout that led the Filipinos to concede defeat.
The day also saw other notable performances, with Japan defeating Hong Kong 9-3 to extend their winning streak to three. South Korea dominated Kazakhstan with a 12-0 victory and Qatar with a 14-1 win. Additionally, the Chinese Taipei team overcame Kuwait 13-3 and Mongolia 8-4, highlighting the competitive spirit of the games.
