The ninth Asian Winter Games are just a day away from their opening ceremony this Friday in Harbin, located in northeast the Chinese mainland's Heilongjiang Province. As excitement builds, the organizing committee and the Olympic Council of Asia held a media briefing at the Main Press Centre (MPC) on Thursday to address questions from both Chinese and international media about the Games' preparations, event services, and support processes.
Greg Laffradi from CGTN Sports Scene attended the press conference where Husain Al-Musallam, Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, emphasized the significance of the Asian Winter Games in fostering athlete development on the international stage. Al-Musallam highlighted that the Games have been instrumental in encouraging countries without existing winter sports infrastructure to develop their programs and send athletes to compete.
Over the years, the Asian Winter Games have seen an increasing number of participating teams, serving as a catalyst for the growth of winter sports in various nations. This expansion not only broadens the competitive field but also inspires young athletes across the continent to pursue excellence in winter sports, contributing to a more dynamic and diverse sporting landscape.
