Mainland Condemns Taiwan Leader’s ‘Secessionist’ Remarks

A Chinese mainland spokesperson has denounced recent comments by Lai Ching-te, leader of the Taiwan region, calling them \"provocations that threaten cross-strait stability.\" Zhu Fenglian of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office stated that Lai's rhetoric exposes his role as a \"destroyer of peace\" in the Taiwan Strait during a Wednesday press briefing.

Zhu reaffirmed the mainland's stance that Taiwan remains an inseparable part of China, emphasizing that cross-strait relations can only progress through adherence to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus. \"The well-being of people on both sides depends on opposing secessionist actions and safeguarding peace,\" she said.

The remarks follow Lai's speech advocating greater autonomy, which Beijing views as undermining national sovereignty. Zhu urged residents of Taiwan to prioritize shared cultural heritage and collaborate on economic and social initiatives to \"forge a future of unity and rejuvenation.\"

Analysts suggest the escalating rhetoric highlights delicate cross-strait dynamics amid global debates about regional security and economic ties in East Asia.
