China’s Speed Skating Duo Eyes Gold at Asian Winter Games

China's short track speed skating stars Liu Shaolin and Liu Shaoang are gearing up for a high-stakes season, with their sights set on podium finishes at the ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin. The siblings, fresh off securing relay gold at December’s ISU World Tour event in Beijing, shared insights into their training and ambitions in an exclusive interview with CGTN Sports Scene.

The brothers’ 2024 season began with challenges but culminated in standout performances. Liu Shaolin reflected: “The home competition in Beijing was really successful—it showed our resilience.” Younger brother Liu Shaoang added: “Short track is full of ups and downs, but we’ve learned to push through.”

With the Asian Winter Games approaching, the duo emphasized their focus. “This season is packed—Asian Games, Olympic test events in Milan—but we thrive under pressure,” Liu Shaolin said, highlighting their gold-medal mindset. Their recent mixed relay win with teammates Fan Kexin, Gong Li, and Sun Long has further fueled confidence.

As Harbin prepares to host Asia’s premier winter sports event, all eyes will be on the Liu brothers to deliver another iconic moment for China’s rapidly growing winter sports community.
